![]() ![]() It’s a far funnier movie than Casino, and the plot is more unique and intriguing IMO. ![]() Tommy is fascinating and dangerous because of the threat he poses to characters you like. ![]() You care about Henry however irritating and flawed he can be, you care about Jimmy and Paulie even if you’re not sure how far to trust them. Scorsese didn’t lay any groundwork in those movies to make me emotionally invest in the people that inhabit it, and the only real plot intrigue is just how much they’ll get away with. The stakes and excitement of both of these movies are intended to be tied to the danger these characters put themselves in- the consequences of their own actions- but there are no stakes if I just do not care what the hell happens next. That’s because both lack a single character that I give a shit about. Do you hold moviegoers to a standard of turning off their humanity for a robotically objective viewing, or expect them to pretend they don’t get bored in a movie? I’ll be the first to admit that I also think Casino (and Wolf of Wall Street) are two of Scorsese’s movies that were boring to me. If you’re gonna shake someone for not contributing value to the discussion, I think you should probably do it with a little more content than a flippant 10 word zinger.īoredom is a human experience. ![]()
